A One-Day Trip from Samarkand to Shahrisabz

Samarkand – Shahrisabz: approximately 80 km

Shahrisabz, known as the "Green City," is located about 1.5 hours from Samarkand. The road passes through the scenic Takhta-Karacha Pass, offering beautiful views of mountains, valleys, and rural landscapes along the way.

Ak-Saray Palace

The city's main landmark is the ruins of Ak-Saray Palace, which Tamerlane began building in the late 14th century. Once one of the most impressive royal residences in Central Asia, only fragments of its monumental entrance portal and walls survive today. But even the surviving ruins give a sense of the palace's original grandeur.

Ak-Saray Palace – Dorut Saodat Complex: 1 km

The next stop is the Dorut Saodat Memorial Complex, built by Tamerlane for members of his family. It houses the mausoleum of his eldest son, Jahangir, as well as a famous underground crypt that many historians associate with Tamerlane himself.

Dorut Saodat Complex – Kok Gumbaz Mosque: 1.5 km

Built in the 15th century by order of Ulugh Beg, Tamerlane's grandson, Kok Gumbaz Mosque is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Shahrisabz. Its name means "Blue Dome," and it is considered one of the finest examples of Timurid architecture in the city.

Historic Center of Shahrisabz
